The Quadratic Formula

The quadratic formula is a formula that will solve for the x-intercepts of a second-degree polynomial (known as a quadratic equation), if they exist. It is possible for a quadratic equation to have either 2, 1, or 0 intercepts. The Quadratic Formula is as follows:

$$x_{1},x_{2}=\frac{-b\pm \sqrt{ b^2-4ac }}{2a}$$

Recall that a quadratic equation is of the following form:

$$ax^2+bx+c$$

You simply substitute the a, b, c from the equation into the formula and evaluate the formula.
